This is half Challenge and half Fund Raiser to help pay for ongoing upgrades and maintainence of the MDRA Infrastructure, Pads, Trailers and all the other good things the club has to offer it's members. "Mach Madness" will give all you Guys and Gals a chance to put your "Motor Where Your Mouth Is" and show us "Who Is The Badest In The Land" "Mach Madness" involves putting up $10 per flight to enter the challenge and through verifiable means be the fastest in the air. The prizes will vary from launch to launch. We have had some major interest from our Vendors who would like to donate some of their products as prizes. This should add additional incentive to push the envelope. After all we are MDRA, if we don’t do who will? The winner of the Challenge will either collect the donated prize or half the money collected (if we do not have a donated prize or the turn out is too small. ) Unless you would like to donate the winnings to MDRA, we are not too proud to beg. Remember this is mainly for bragging rights and some friendly trash talking. Each launch will have a Mach Madness Challenge, as long as we have willing participants. There will be a winner at the end of each launch. There will be a "Record Holder". That person is the overall fastest in the sky. He or she is the "Badest In The Land". They retain that title until they are beaten. There will be a prize awarded at the end of the season to the "Badest in the Land". The award will be participation driven, the more people that buy into the challenge the better the prize.

The on going results would be prominently displayed on the Web Site as to "Who Is The Badest In The Land" and the current record speed.

The rules are: (We don't need no stinking rules)

• Any size rocket.
• Staging is permitted.
• Any motor or combination of motors.
• Stay with in the waiver; this will be enforced.
• The rocket must ascend intact, no Max-Q dis-assemblies. The high "G" spike throws the readings out the door.
• The rocket can be damaged on landing, power lines, tress, etc. We are only concerned with the up part. The altimeter / accelerometer must still be functioning.
• There must be a verifiable means of determining the speed such as an ARTS, Altacc, G-Wiz, RDAS etc. on board.
• If you have a new or different type recording altimeter you must give the Judge(s), the software and the cables for recording purposes.
• The altimeter is downloaded into the Judge(s) onsite laptop the day of the launch.
• Consideration will be given to "Lost Rockets" at the judge’s discretion....good luck!
• There will be a winner at the end of each launch.
• The fee is $10.00 per flight payable at the registration table.
• The weekend winner is entitled to the designated prize (will vary from launch to launch) or half the pot (if a prize is not offered or the turn out is below 6 people) for that weekend.
• If the rocket is lost and not found by the end of the launch, the Judge will decide on the award for that weekend.

Special Summer Rules (for launches at the Central Sod Farm):

Summer Mach Madness at the Central Sod Farm will be limited to J motors and will be considered "Mach Madness Lite". Due to the extreme altitudes achieved to date at Higgs Farm (15,000 feet +) in an effort to be "The Badest In The Land" and the limitations of recovery area at the Central Sod Farm, we have determined that this change will be in everyone's best interest to have a fighting chance to get their rockets back and keep them out of the trees. Historically the 4,000 to 6,000 foot range will put your rocket back on the field at the Central Sod Farm. Anything higher is a roll of the dice. But as many of you know the surrounding trees can be unyielding once they get hold of your rocket.

The rules will remain the same, short of the motor limitation. The limitation is purposely designed to limit extreme altitudes and open the Mach Madness Challenge (which is a "Fund Raiser") to more Competitors who may have been intimidated by the thought of going head to head with M, N and O motors. This will level the playing field for the summer and open the "Go Fast" part of the challenge to more members to hone their skills of rocket building, recovery and motor making.
