Steve Heller: I lost a black, all carbon fiber 54MM Performance Rocketry Mongoose 54 on Saturday, 11/08/08. Saw the main come out and the rocket landed softly out by the road, in front of the trees looking out at the pads from the front field/flight line. Landed somewhere in between the welding shop and the large white sign, most likely in the soy beans. Saw a dark red pickup truck stop near where we thought it landed when we were heading out to get it -- someone got out, got something, and got back in. Not sure whether this was it or not, but seeing as myself and several others spent over 8 hours over two days looking for the thing (tracker lost signal right before the main came out), it is likely it was picked up and just hasn't been returned yet, or was stolen, as it was most likely visible from the road. Dual deployment, 1/8" kevlar shock cords, ~48" hot pink parachute. LOKI 2000NS case inside. $100 reward if found. Please contact Steve Heller, e-mail steve.m.heller [at] gmail [dot] com, cell 203.273.8718 |

The booster has a 54mm with six outboard 29mm motor tubes, and staging electronics. The booster was loaded with a single 38mm plain aluminum casing about 16" long (full I size), with my TRA number 2471 written in faded marker at the end of the casing. Mostly white payload section, with two wide black bands and black nosecone, housing a Super 8 movie camera, adept RAS2 altimeter, and an orange 'chute. Streamlined into or beyond the woods a year ago, on August 8, 2004. The rocket went down on a compass bearing of 250 degrees, taken as I was standing at the rangehead. The woods are the ones you would get to if you came into the farm and kept on driving on the road past the rangehead, the rocket landed in or beyond the woods to the right of the end of that road. If you have anything or need more info, please email me, I would really like to recover the altimeter chip and casing and see if anything else in the remains is still salvageable.
